Civil War

Gen. Robert E. Lee

Born in Seattle, Carmine began studying art in the early 70’s at a small Washington college. Her interest in printmaking began with linoleum block, evolved to letterpress and eventually developed into a commercial printing plant where she and her then-husband published community newspapers in western Montana. The demands of the business quickly replaced the opportunity for her graphic art and creativity with the “commercial arts” of hiring, training, and accounting for their growing publishing enterprise.

Having sold the business in 2000, Carmine (which means "sparkling red"; a pigment used in paint,) reentered college to pursue her passion for art, and did some study in Italy. Her life experience has enriched her appreciation of art, and Carmine enjoys expressing this in portraiture and watercolor landscape.

Her studio is on the west shore of Flathead Lake with a view of the water and the Mission Mountains, which reminds Carmine of her childhood home.
